Speed networking sessions at the upcoming Music Exchange gathering in Cape Town could lead to some interesting post-conference collaborations.
Conference organisers have scheduled these sessions, based on speed dating, to ensure delegates “share five minutes with their top ten” at the event.
This conference is aimed to connecting people working in the music, film and entertainment business.
They opening speaker is scheduled to be Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist Yasiin Bey a.k.a. Mos Def from America. He has also starred in big screen films The Italian Job, Def Poetry and Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Also at the event will be film music composer Trevor Jones who has worked with global hit-makers David Bowie, Sting, U2, Sinead O’Connor and Britney Spears. His film score credits include Notting Hill and The Last of the Mohicans.
Music Exchange founder Martin Myers, who launched the annual conference in 2009, said speakers would be “covering every aspect of the African and global entertainment economy”.
“The movers and shakers of the entertainment industry are expected to converge on the (Cape Town) City Hall, from musicians to marketers and strategists, to network, discuss, collaborate, learn and be enriched by the latest global trends, knowledge and insights,” said Myers.
Conference chairman and award-winning musician Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse said the wanted the event to become “essential for anyone in the industry who wants to connect with the correct stakeholders”.
“Be it in electronic dance music, digital trends, entering the live music scene or learning how to generate new income streams,” he added.
