Kirstenbosh Garden offers free holiday entry for children

Written by Yazeed Kamaldien

Parents who want their children to run wild are in luck, as Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden has scrapped entry fees for children during the upcoming school holiday.

The green pastures will open to all children aged six to 17 for three weeks from June 24 to July 12. A Winter Wonders programme of activities “that will have your kids creating, learning, walking and generally having fun” has also been planned.

This includes storytelling sessions, a puppet show, and craft work sessions “using things from the garden”.
Adventure walks will also be held on various days. This includes a “ramble with stories and fun to celebrate Kirstenbosch’s 100th birthday this year”.

“A leafy treasure hunt also leads to the creation of a beautiful work of art. Bring your parents as well if you wish,” says Kirstenbosch.

Botanical Society volunteer guide Gill Adlard will meanwhile tell children about “spiderheads, silkypuffs and pagodas; ancient, fascinating families in the Protea garden”.
